Cycling in Oregon always means breathtaking views, and the same is true here in Maupin, Oregon. Imperial River Company is the starting point for several annual cycling competitions and some of the best bike routes along the Deschutes River and beyond.
If you want to ride a peaceful route with great views and paved roads, we invite you to stay at our lodge and see what the Maupin area has to offer. We are a Bike Friendly Business and offer many amenities popular to cyclists. We have a walk-up restaurant with great beers on tap. Park your bike near your table, enjoy a cold pint in a log swing by the river or check-in to your lodge room and roll your bike on in, too! We also have bicycle repair available on-site, courtesy of Olson's Bicycles in Forest Grove. With plenty of low traffic pavement, your South Wasco County cycling ride is only limited by your imagination and your endurance. That said some of the most popular routes and most helpful outside resources are listed below:
Maupin to Sherar's Falls: 18 miles round tripStart at the Imperial River Company, ride down river past city park on Bakeoven Road. Turn left on the Deschutes River Access Road and cycle down the river as far as you like. (Road is paved for 10 miles.) Keep your eyes peeled for herons, otters and jumping trout. This is an out-and-back easy ride.
Sherar's Falls Loop: 26.6 milesThis is everyone's favorite ride! Ridden either clock-wise or counter-clock-wise, you will see some awesome scenery. Coast 9 miles along the Deschutes River, ride by White River Falls State Park, view Mt. Hood, watch farming in the Tygh Valley and constantly keep an eye out for deer, antelope, rabbits and river inhabitants. Click here to see a route map and more detailed description. Bakeoven Out and Back: 46 miles round tripHave you explored the Deschutes River on your bike? Ridden the Sherar's Falls Loop a few times? Bakeoven Road should be next on your list. Start in Maupin, climb 23 miles to Bakeoven Summit. Tag on an additional 5 miles and stop in Shaniko for ice cream at Goldie's Ice Cream Parlor. Turn around and know that the entire way back to Maupin is downhill! And boy, have you earned it! Click here for a route map. This is a challenging ride.
Take a Casual Ride along the Deschutes RiverIf you're not up for the races, or longer routes you can still enjoy some great biking around the Maupin area. Take a ride along 216 and 197 and get some great views of Mt. Hood. You can also follow the Deschutes River and enjoy stunning whitewater views and quiet canyon roads. Traffic is always minimal here, and you'll be hooked immediately!
